number 1The first step in our process is Employment. Phoenix Hometown Hires’ Job Program is designed to teach and empower participants with the skills and strategies needed for finding employment. It begins with Jobs Week, a 32-hour, week long training workshop that teaches job seekers the skills needed to find and maintain employment, such as:

  • Networking
  • Resume writing
  • Interview preparation
  • Dressing for success
  • Overcoming barriers
  • Time management
  • Goal setting
  • Strategic thinking

Each job seeker is paired with a staff employment counselor for one-on-one support. The relationship is 50/50: Phoenix Hometown Hires uses its resources to provide opportunities, while participants execute the skills they’ve learned, all in the pursuit of finding a job.

Additional support may include: assistance with business attire at no cost, transportation to interviews, and connecting job seekers to employers and current job openings in the community. Activities are conducted through classroom training, individual and team exercises, personal assignments, and one-on-one coaching sessions.

number 2The second step in our process is Life Skills, a program for adult participants who have obtained employment and their children. The goal is stability in all aspects of life over the long term. Once weekly, adults attend workshops to learn or improve their skills in areas such as:

  • Budgeting
  • Goal-setting
  • Credit restoration
  • Communication
  • Career Development
  • Relationship Development

In conjunction with the weekly workshops for working adults, Phoenix Hometown Hires offers a Children’s Program designed to equip children with the ability to make positive life choices. Each adult participant is paired with a staff case manager and a “co-partner” who is a volunteer from the community. The purpose of a co-partner is to provide an additional arm of support in helping participants’ achieve their goals.

Each participant creates goals for their personal and professional development. Guidance and support from the case manager and co-partner is provided through regular meetings by phone and in person.
